As always, Shirley gave a magnificent benefit concert performance
All proceeds for this show went to The Bear Valley Community Hospital.

At the end of the show, Shirley gave her wonderful
musical director, Ron Abel, a big hug.
Adam Christing
opened for
Shirley
and he was absolutely hilarious!
He's a comic and a magician.

That is Pat Warmington at the finale of the show
telling Shirley to
"Wait just a second, there is one more surprise".
Pat is on the Board of Directors for
The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District Foundation.
She is responsible for making each benefit such a great success.
The story that goes with the photos
Marty Ingels who had not been well enough to attend the
performance,
drove all the way up from Los Angeles to the
San Bernardino Mountains to deliver that
large, orange, paper chrysanthemum.
He did not make an appearance, simply got back in the car
and continued back to L.A. (Another two and a half hour drive!) That was so
sweet!

The Big Bear Performing Arts Center
Rehearsal around 3 PM - Saturday, August 28th
Shirley was deep in thought

She was having trouble remembering the first verse of the song "Beauty
and The Beast".
Everyone who was in the PAC auditorium at that time tried to recall the lyrics.
We were all
stumped.
Shirley began to remember
of course &
When it came time to perform the song for a live audience that evening,
She did not miss a word!

Musical Director, Ron Abel sitting at the piano as the
lighting changes from pink
to purple, to bright white. Impressive images were flashed across the giant screen behind.
There was a bright golden haze on the meadow for "Oh What a beautiful Morning"
The trumpet and keyboard you can see in the background (above
right) is for The Music Man medley.
In this photograph
Shirley
is trying not to laugh.
During her rendition of "You Made Me Love You", she
usually walks down to
the
front row
and sings directly to a few gentlemen seated in the audience.
Technical Director, Trish Mahoney was sitting right there at rehearsal time.
Shirley had said something to her like:
"OK, lets rehearse, pretend you're an elderly
gentleman."
Trish did something silly that I could not see and Shirley was having a
very hard time trying not to break into laughter. Shirley's rehearsals are
casual and light hearted. Occasionally there may be a technical glitch
but even then it's a very relaxed atmosphere.
Why the concerned look on Shirley's face?

Trish and the engineers in the sound booth were explaining to Shirley
that she should not walk quite so far to the left and right on the stage. During
the
actual performance that evening there was to be a large red velvet curtain.
It was yet in place for the afternoon practice.
They did not want Shirley to get used to having such a large stage area to work with
because the curtain would end up taking several feet on either side.
