The "Youth For Hope Concert " Sponsored
by
The Louis Gendel/Stan Kaufman Chapter of the City of Hope

Backstage about five minutes before the start of
the program.
Shirley is talking with Dr. Ernest Katz, Founder and Conductor
of
The Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra of California
The man that you see in the background between Shirley
and Dr. Katz
is guest soloist Jordan Bennett. He is an awesome performer.

Shirley was the Mistress of Ceremonies
for a magnificent concert
held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on
November 12th at 7:00 pm
Here she is
in her dressing room about a half an hour before show time.
Shirley did all of the announcing before each musical selection and she
was
kind enough to give me her original copy of the script that she read on
stage.

Here you see
a small section of the eight page commentary that Shirley was given.
They provided a few pronunciation guides and she also wrote in one for
herself.
Shirley did an eloquent job.
(She always does!)
There was only one slight blooper which Shirley actually worked to her advantage later on!
She began to announce Bizet's Carmen Suite, before Beethoven's Egmont
Overture.

After the Overture, when it WAS
time to announce Bizet,
Shirley joked: "Everyone
still loves Carmen"
This clip from her speech tells you why
that made the audience chuckle.
