The 5th Annual Sharp Senior Health
Symposium

September 11th, 1999
At the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley Hotel

The lady in this photograph with Shirley is Teresa Graves.

Teresa was responsible for the program development and she did a
wonderful job. The 5th Annual Sharp Symposium was a success.
That gentleman in the right-hand photo is radio station KPOP's, Jerry G. Bishop.
He was the emcee for this event.
The weather in San Diego was fair
and warm,
The concert was held inside an Outdoor Pavilion (a very large tent)
It was a great setting for the banquet and concert.
The only problem was that this huge tent was draped with a canvas covering
that did not let the natural breezes flow through.

Shirley accepts a clean dinner napkin from a young woman in the audience
who has noticed that Shirley is in need of something to wipe her brow.
It was at least ten degrees warmer on stage, due to all of the lights.

The sound system was excellent, however the
amplifiers were so large that they blocked out the view for
some of the people seated right behind. In that center photo above,
Shirley peeks around one of these amps to see the folks back there.
Immediately following the performance Shirley was escorted to an area called
the Sun Room where she signed autographs and talked to the crowd.

Shirley was very pleased.

Her Saturday afternoon audience bought many copies of her excellent Concert Tape.
That's Trish, Shirley's friend and technical engineer (sound and lighting)
She is handing out one of the cassettes to a fan. The tapes are available
at all of Shirley's concerts or you may purchase one Here
from this Web Site as well.

Shirley was given an elegant suite on the 15th floor of this
beautiful hotel.
Following her public reception, she invited her manager Gene, his lovely lady friend
Eileen,
Teresa Graves and several people from the symposium committee, to her room to chat awhile.
The conversation drifted to the awful fire that I'm sure
most people have heard or read about in our San Bernadino Mountains.
(Sadly many homes were destroyed in the blaze that has
scorched more than 60,000 acres)
Shirley's house is just fine, however the fire got within miles
of her gorgeous mountain hideaway.
I bring this up now, because Shirley told a related story
that I'd love to share with all of her Web Site visitors.

Bears, Raccoons, Deer, Coyotes and other wild animals often
come down out of the mountains in Big Bear.
Of course even more often when there has been a fire in the area.
Shirley was up at her mountain home, just relaxing
and cleaning up a few dishes in the kitchen. She has many large
picture windows that enable her to enjoy the incredible view.
Well, Can you just imagine her reaction when she looked up from what
she had been doing
to find herself staring eye to eye with This Creature!
(click "creature".)
Plus, he actually had his nose pressed right up to the window pane!
